Detail photos for this Artwork

This extremely rare and highly collectable book is one of very few publications in existence that deals with the work of the artist Ruby Lindsay, the talented sister of artists Lionel, Percy and Norman Lindsay.

This lovely book offers a discerning collector and follower of Ruby’s beautiful work, a rare opportunity to see examples of her very scarce work. Published in London in 1920 by Cecil Palmer, the book was compiled as a touching tribute to Ruby Lindsay by her husband, the respected war artist and cartoonist Will Dyson (1880-1938), following Ruby’s tragic death in 1919 at the age of just 33 after she contracted the Spanish flu in Ireland.

Ruby’s death at such a young age has meant that very few of her original works surface for sale and there are also consequently a very limited number of texts the deal with her life and art. This book, “The Drawings of Ruby Lind 1887-1919” is one such publication. The book is a very scarce first edition produced in hardcover in 1920. It was printed in a very small quantity and available to a limited number of subscribers.

The book contains an introduction and tribute to Ruby Lindsay by her husband Will Dyson as well as a full page photographic portrait of Ruby Lindsay and 20 full page illustrations, that depict a variety or Ruby’s works in pencil, pen and ink, watercolour and oil, and is an important historical and cultural object, as well as a delightful insight into Ruby Lindsay’s incredible talent as an illustrator and artist.
