Artist's Biography

Iris Armour was born on 5 October, 1945. During her art career she worked in several mediums and her work was concerned mainly with tropical images, including nudes, seascapes, landscapes, interiors and flowers.

Studies:
Studied in New South Wales for three years at East Sydney Technical College tutored by the well-respected artist John Coburn (1925-2006). In Queensland, Iris attended several seminars.

Exhibitions:
Numerous exhibitions throughout Queensland from 1983 and into the 2000’s.

Awards:
Has been the recipient of numerous awards including: 1982 & 1985 Drawing Prize, Mackay Art Society Exhibition; 1983 Watercolour Prize, Mackay Show Exhibition; 1984 Watercolour & Gouache Prize, Mackay Art Exhibition; 1986 Pastel Prize, Mackay Artists Exhibition; 1987 Watercolour Prize, Gladstone Art Exhibition; 1988 Bicentennial Prize, Pioneer Valley Open Exhibition; 1988 Drawing Prize & Major Prize, Cloncurry Open Memorial Exhibition; 1988 Caltex Prize; 1990 Major Prize, Australian Airlines Award; 1991 Pioneer Shire Council Prize; 1992 Australian Airlines Award; 1993 Qantas Airlines Award; 1993 Major Prize, Emerald Inaugural Art Prize (for which “Whitsunday Window” was the winner); 1995 Wide Bay Capricorn Acquisitive Prize; 1996 Traditional Prize, Serena Art Exhibition & Rockhampton Gallery; 1999 Perce Tucker Annual Arts Society Drawing Prize, Townsville (judged by Betty Churcher).

1990 The Reef House, Cairns; 1991 International Banking Magazine, Japan (front cover); 1992 Japanese Bank; 1993 Emerald Art Gallery; 1994 various commissions. Represented in Regional Art Galleries throughout Queensland and numerous private art collections in Australia and Japan.
