“Birds at the Billabong” (1990) – SOLD

Many of us know so well the paintings by Pro Hart that feature outback towns and farms, so it’s always a pleasure to present one of his less-commonly seen waterbird paintings.

Painted in 1990, “Birds at the Billabong” is a quality oil by Pro that reflects the peacefulness of nature.

As a small child, during family outings, Pro enjoyed yabbying and fishing and going exploring along the banks of the Darling River – a cool and tranquil oasis that was just beyond the reaches of the dusty mining town of Broken Hill where he lived and worked for most of his life.

The clusters of elegant waterbirds gathered by the edges of the river and beside billabongs fascinated Pro and in his paintings he depicts them sensitively, portrayed with soft, diaphanous white wings. The representation of the water is also particularly beautiful, it’s shimmering appearance achieved by Pro Hart’s love of invention and experimentation in his painting technique, hence his name “Pro”, short for “the professor”.
