Denise Daffara has just completed this delightful painting, taking pleasure in the evolvement of her recent body of work, The Wisdom Tree Series, which celebrates the regenerative energy and beauty of forests.
The tree, the focal point of this joyful painting, was inspired by “The Wishing Tree” near the labyrinth at Merri Creek in Melbourne. People often visit the tree to tie little prayers and notes onto its branches.
Denise’s tree speaks of the ancient pulse of nature and all the wisdom that comes with this. At the onset of this series, vast areas of Australia’s bush and wildlife were ablaze. In response to this devastation Denise’s birds and trees with their vibrant undergrowth, felt to her like painted prayers.
In Denise’s Wisdom Tree, Lorikeets flit into the beautiful canopy, arriving like messenger birds. Lorikeets symbolise a great range of things, including: communication skills, and the love of language, ability to see all viewpoints, recognition of a soul mate, and a connection to rainbows.
Denise loves a dash of fun and whimsicality in her pieces and the Cassowary arrived in her imagination while the composition was being formed. The appearance of this spectacular bird comes with his own layer of symbolism, including: balance, connection, paternal energy, and protection.
