Tiffany’s Research Notes on “No Yes”:
This lovely facsimile etching is a faithful reproduction of the original Drypoint etching completed by Norman Lindsay in 1932.
Original drypoints of “No-Yes” are very rare with very few surfacing for sale. Exhibition catalogue records indicate that original etchings of “No-Yes” were only exhibited four times between 1932 and 1998.
Because of the extreme rarity of the original etchings, this Limited Edition Facsimile Etching provides the most realistic opportunity for Lindsay collectors to acquire an image of “No-Yes”.
During the late 1920’s & 1930’s, Lindsay spent many hours drawing from artist models who posed for him at his studio in Bridge Street, Sydney. Many of these girls were dancers or showgirls.
In this piece Norman Lindsay concentrates on the elegant lines of the model’s figure and portrays the sensual curves of the female form.
Lindsay heightens the model’s feminine intrigue by showing her turning her head over her shoulder to face us with an inviting gaze. Other Norman Lindsay etchings such as “Delight”, “Who Follows?” “Coquette” and “The Temptress” also feature a model in a similar pose to “No-Yes”.
