Shearing the Straggler (1992) – SOLD

Detail photos for this Artwork

When Pro Hart was a young boy, he spent his early years on a sheep station before his family moved to Broken Hill.

Artistic from a very young age, Pro preferred to sketch and draw answers to school lessons rather than write them!

This colourful oil reflects Pro’s childhood memories of shearing days on the station and includes a personal favourite “Pro motif” – two black dogs! And, for collectors, a special art tip: if a Pro Hart oil has its title inscribed along the bottom on the painting, like this oil, this is rarer and more prestigious.

A painter of the people, Pro Hart has left a legacy of paintings that capture the spirit and humour of Aussies at work and play. He has enjoyed a popularity that very few other Australian artists could match, bringing art into the homes of Australians from all walks of life to become a true “household name”.
