Sidetracked (Red-browed Finch) (1989)

Works by the amazing bird painter Greg Postle rarely appear for sale due to the small body of work that Greg has been able to produce during his career because of the highly detailed and very time-consuming nature of his exacting technique.

This delightful piece featuring a delicate Red-browed Finch is an early work, created by Greg Postle in the late 1980’s, marking the point when Postle’s career began to blossom. “Side Tracked” is typical of the fine work Greg created in Gouache from this early period, a medium that allows for very fine brush strokes and realism, that are signature elements of Postle’s much admired style evident now, and also in his earliest of pieces.

This painting also shows Greg’s interest with placing birds with man made objects, which is evidenced in the painting’s title that alludes to the rusting old railway track machinery featured in the scene.
