Heightening Swell, Double Island Point (2008) – SOLD
Detail photos for this Artwork
Michael Challen’s breathtakingly realist paintings are represented in some of Australia’s most notable collections, including that of Janet Holmes a’Court. Challen’s skilful portrayal of light and detail are the standout features of his timeless landscape masterpieces.
Since his passing in 2011, aged 54, very few of Challen’s pieces have surfaced for sale on the open market, so I am very pleased to be able to offer this rare beachscape of Double Island Point, near Noosa.
For several years, Michael lived at Coolum and enjoyed surfing at the local beaches. He visited nearby Double Island Point on many occasions and was impressed by the grandeur of cliffs and swirling ocean below at the Point. After witnessing the awesome power of a huge swell arriving at the Point after a cyclone, he was inspired to paint this dramatic scene.
