Detail photos for this Artwork
This lovely collectable Calendar from 1991, which is illustrated on the cover and on each page for each month by Hugh Sawrey, emanates from a private collection. It was owned by a former manager of an aircraft maintenance team who worked at Melbourne’s Essendon Airport.
In 1990 each of the staff in the maintenance team received as a Christmas present from one of their main parts suppliers Renolds, a copy of this beautiful calendar. Renolds are one of the world’s oldest, most respected, and largest chain building companies. Renolds supply gear boxes and hydraulic pumps for aircraft maintenance, plus parts and machinery to countless other engineering based companies.
This Calendar entitled “Outback” is in perfect condition, having never been used and protected for 32 years in its original cardboard folio from the year of its release. The Certificate of Authenticity that came with the Calendar is also still intact and in excellent condition.
The “Outback” Calendar was compiled and published by Multileaf Pty Ltd and released worldwide in an edition of 20,000 copies. This copy is Number 982 from the edition.
Due to the long passage of time that has elapsed since the calendars were published 32 years ago, and because many of the calendars would have become redundant and disposed of once their usefulness expired at the end of 1991, very few of these calendars have survived to this day. They very rarely surface for sale, especially one in such pristine condition. This calendar has never been used and has remained protected and safely intact inside its original cardboard folio case from when it was first gifted over three decades ago.
The Hugh Sawrey oil paintings that were used as illustrations for this Calendar are as follows for each month:
January: “Bulldogging, Northern Territory”
February: “Smithy’s Wheat Farm, Gilgandra, NSW”
March: “Stockyards, Near Warwick, Queensland”
April: “Shearing on the Binde-Bango, Western Queensland”
June: “In the Yards at Cuttaburra, Cunnamulla, Western Queensland”
July: “Packing the Nags, Mooraberrie Station, Channel Country, Western Queensland”
August: “Tending the Muster, Mooraberrie, Monkira, Durrie and St Leonards Cattlemen, Channel Country, Western Queensland”
September: “The Loose Saddle – Boorooloola Tommy, Trailing the Bullocks, Gulf Country Queensland”
