The original etching, from which this facsimile etching is faithfully reproduced, was first published in 1937 in an edition of only 15 (Norman Lindsay’s etching editions usually ran to 55), therefore making original etchings of Aloha very collectable and virtually impossible to source.
The statuesque woman in this etching displays Lindsay’s love for what he termed the female dominant.
The black rug in the etching was originally made by Norman’s wife, Rose Lindsay out of scraps of material cut into strips and pulled through a net.
Rose Lindsay was also a model for many of Norman’s works and Norman regarded her as one of his most beautiful models.
