Tiffany’s Research Notes on “The Bauble”:
The original etching of “The Bauble”, from which this facsimile etching is faithfully reproduced, was originally issued for 5 guineas in 1924.
The facsimile edition was released in 1974 and is now a sold out edition.
“The Bauble” displays Norman’s love of the theatrical and this work differs in dramatic quality from the winsome nymphs in many of his other etchings.
There is a humorous touch, reflecting Norman’s love for irony in that the bauble being held aloft is thought to be Norman’s caricature of himself and a comment on men in general being at the whim of beautiful women.
